How to submit an article to the NA Digest

Any mail sent to "na.digest@na-net.ornl.gov" will be considered for distribution to all members of the NA-NET. About once a week the Editor of the NA-NET News Digest will go over the messages which have queued up, pick out the ones that are thought to be of general interest to the numerical analysis and mathematical software community, combine them in a News Digest format, and mail the Digest to everyone on the mailing list.

Submission procedure

Due to the large amount of spam we receive, we now require a follow-on action for submissions. The procedure works as follows.

  1. Email your submssion to "na.digest@na-net.ornl.gov"
  2. The na-digest mail server will then send you a message to you asking for confirmation. The message you sent will be included as an attachment. Please double check that the message it as you intended to send it.
  3. You must confirm your message by visiting the URL in the confirmation message. Your message will will be held up to 10 days awaiting confirmation.

Note 1: If your message does not contain any plain text, or does not contain a valid From address and a Subject, the server will respond with a message explaining that your contribution cannot be accepted until you fix these problems and resubmit your message.

Note 2: If your message contains content other than plain text (for instance HTML, PDF, or MS-Word), it will have been discarded by the server, and the request for confirmation will warn you that important content of the message may have been removed (since the digest only supports plain text). You should review the copy that is returned to you to make sure that it contains all necessary information, before confirming the message.

General guidelines for submissions

The subject line should be descriptive and no more than 70 characters.

Examples of good subject lines:

The body of the message must be plain text with no more than 80 characters per line. The message itself should be as concise as possible, and no more than a few dozen lines at most. We recommend providing a URL for detailed information such as program committees, schedules, registration forms, etc.

Please format the body of the message exactly as you wish it to appear in the digest. You do not need to include a request to include your item in the digest; i.e., no need to include "Please consider the following for inclusion in the next digest..." And please omit your signature.

Adherence to these guidelines will make the life of the digest editor easier and so will be very much appreciated. Thanks for your support of the NA-Net News Digest!
